Food, exercise and sport at school

Eating at school

At our school, we think it is important for children to eat healthy food. Healthy food helps children to concentrate better, have enough energy and feel good. That is why we pay a lot of attention to this and make agreements together about what children take to school.

Break snack

All children eat once at school during break. We ask you to bring a healthy snack, such as fruit, a whole-grain sandwich, a vegetable snack (e.g. cucumber or peppers) or a whole-grain cracker. Healthy snacks ensure that your child has enough energy to participate well in lessons.

Lunch

Children living outside the AZC Dronten also take lunch to school. Make sure this lunch is nutritious and healthy. Think whole-wheat sandwiches with savoury fillings, vegetables or fruit and possibly a dairy product, such as yoghurt.

We urge you not to bring any sweets, chocolates, biscuits, crisps or soft drinks. Water, milk or a cup of tea are good and responsible choices for drinking.

School fruit

As a school, we participate in the programme EU School Fruit. This means that children receive free fruit or vegetables at school on several days a week. In this way, we encourage eating healthy snacks and children learn about different types of fruit and vegetables.

Together with parents, we want to teach children to make healthy choices. We count on your cooperation and involvement to make this possible every day!

Exercise and sport

Exercise is an important part of our education. Sport and games contribute not only to children's physical development, but also to their social and emotional growth. We therefore offer various exercise activities for all groups every week.

Group Red and Group Yellow

The youngest children receive play-based PE lessons at school. They exercise daily in and around the classroom and also receive weekly PE lessons focusing on motor skills, play and enjoyment of movement.

Group Gold to Group Purple

From Group Gold onwards, a varied sports programme is on the schedule every week:

  • Tuesday: Swimming lessons
  • Wednesday: Sports class (on the square or in the gym)

The children are divided into two sports groups:

  • Group Gold, Silver and Blue
  • Group Purple, Green and Silver

To the 10 weeks these groups switch programmes so that each child alternates between swimming lessons and sports lessons. In this way, we ensure that all pupils continue to develop both their swimming skills and general motor skills.

With this sports offer, we encourage an active, healthy and positive lifestyle for every child, at every level.
